As counselors in the NAMS building, we work to promote valuable skills that will help students to be
successful academically and in their everyday lives. Helping students to develop a good, positive self image is
one of our roles as school counselors. Also, having high self esteem is an important foundation for other life
skills to build upon, such as: avoiding peer pressure, deterring bullying behavior, exhibiting positive thinking,
demonstrating good decision making, displaying positive communication skills, and showing evidence of
making and keeping friends.
Parents can also help their children raise their self esteem by encouraging them to follow these 21 helpful tips
